Create a Folder Hierarchy

If the files you want to attach and upload are organized in a folder hierarchy on your computer, you may want to create the same folder hierarchy in the Forum entry, so that the organizational structure of the files is the same in both locations.

You can do this using either the multi-file upload applet or the standard file upload form.

To create a folder hierarchy when attaching files:

  1. On the page you use for adding attachments, click the Create a folder for attached files link in the upper-right corner.

The "Add attachments folder" page appears.

  2. Enter the name of the top folder of the hierarchy, followed by the names of any folders it contains, separated by slashes:
    toplevelfolder/level1folder/level2folder/level3folder/...
  3. Click OK.

The page you use for adding attachments reappears.

You can now upload files in the folders.

After you select and upload files, the folder hierarchy appears as part of the discussion entry. You can click on the plus sign to expand the hierarchy.

You may want to add more folders to the hierarchy. For example, you may want a "parent" folder to contain more than one "child" folder.

To add more folders to the hierarchy:

  1. On the "Attach files" page, click on the Create a folder for attached files link.

The "Create a folder" page appears.

  2. Enter the name of the top-level folder, followed by a slash and the name of the new "child" folder.

For any new lower-level folder, you must enter the path beginning with the name of the top-level folder. For instance, if you want "level3folder" from the example above to contain another folder, enter:

    toplevelfolder/level1folder/level2folder/level3folder/anotherfolder

  3. Click OK.

The page you use for adding attachments reappears, displaying the folders you created. You can now upload files in the folders.
